How Many Hours a Week Should a New Freelancer Spend Marketing?

I get this question all the time: How many hours a week should a new freelancer spend marketing their business?

The answer is: as many as it takes.

Now, when you are a new freelancer and don’t have many (or any) clients yet, you’ll spend much more of your time on marketing, since you don’t have client projects to work on. As you grow your business the amount of time you spend marketing will decrease. But now, as a new freelancer, your core focus should be on getting clients.
